Default Getting on the big bore bandwagon

Had been mulling over a bunch of the threads on 107, 106, 103, etc ... of course being as I have a 88, the corresponding kits are 98, 97 and 95 ....

So ... doing my part to keep the MoCo in business ... going with a SE 95 from the local dealership ... price was right ....

They didn't have it on hand, but should take delivery around the middle of next week ....

So, will be watching Drew's (Dr V-Twin) write up and photos with interest ... I know there have been a bunch of guys who've done it recently as well ... JRK5892 earlier in the year ....

I have not gotten heads or lined any porting work up or anything ... think I'll see what the additional cubes add and hold that off until next year maybe .... We'll see ....

+1 what Joe said. Even tho it's such a flush of cash, well at least not all down the drain; for the extra cubes.....and tho it would take probably $15,000+ of engine work to get them even close to most any modern stock liter bike acceleration....forget top speed, ain't gonna happen vis a vis a faired literbike.......
all that aside, adding some stonk to an aircooled V-Twin is SO DAMNED SATISFYING!!
It is cool to have more motion to go with the great Harley sound commotion.

Look up Prodrag1350 or Veetwin for 95 inch jugs and pistons, below is a PM he sent me when I started out. Opted to go with 10.25-1 pistons from him as well.

95" cylinder kit $349.00,stage II headwork (second to NONE) $625.00.ide stay away from the rev. stuff,we`ve seen alot of probs with their cylinders
www.veetwinperformance.com

I called the dealership that is going to be doing the work on mine and was advised to upgrade from SE parts like heads, cams and what not as they are still factory parts and rather tame for what you are paying.

Do some research, make some calls and you can put together a pretty nice motor or so I am finding out.

Yup, I am goin with a Wiseco 10.5 95 kit and some stock bored cylinders and will be right around 350-400 with the top end parts bill. I heard the Screamin Eagle pistons are cast and I am not cool with that even though guys have had good luck with them.
I may have to use a little bit bigger set of cams (more overlap ,duration) to knock the compression down to a streetable level.

Welcome to the big bore bandwagon. If you're like many you'll find it can become addictive and expensive pretty fast. Don't know what you're planning to spend, but if you can make the jump to at least a 107" it may save you money in the long run. Good luck with your build.

Hey, its never a mistake (IMHO) to add more cubes and power to your Harley. Enjoyment does have a price tag. Do it, enjoy it and never look back.....well, except at all your friends who can't keep up.

Even more fun when your big bore kit doesn't look much more than a stock bike like my little 883 Sleeper putting out some 90 plus HP.

The above Sportster is why I need to upgrade the 06 SB.

Hey fellas ... thanks for the tips ... OBE ... I pulled the trigger and decided to go with SE cast 95" flat tops and just replace the cylinders with SE ....

I have a Genuine James top end gasket kit, so it is just a matter of getting started once it comes in ....

I thought about having my cylinders bored to 98 or going with a S&S 97 or whatever ... also, thought about getting heads done ... but, I really don't want to have the down time of shipping, work done, return ....

This way, I'll be able to just take it apart and put it back together ... hopefully same day or maybe overnight and next day ....

Talked to Hillside, FuelMoto (well, Jamie didn't get back to me), and a few others, but was at the dealer for some other stuff and they had an unannounced 15% discount; so, just decided to pull the trigger ....

I know ... should have gone with the forged ... should have gone with higher compression ... etc., etc. ... shoulda coulda woulda ....

Maybe next build ... probably go like bigdaddy straight to 117" ...! LoL

The 'warning' in the SE catalog with the cast pistons is not to exceed 6500 RPM (or whatever) .... I guess that having examined my actual usage, I am comfortable that this setup will fit the bill, at least for the time being ....

I will have a set of jugs I can have bored to 3.927" and get some forged CP 98" pistons later ... all in good time ....

Maybe when I do that, I'll switch to gear drive Woods, Andrews 54, Red Shift, etc. cams, replace the heads with Big Boyz/Baisley/HQ or whatever with 1.9" Int/1.625" Exh get a 58mm HPI or Zippers throttle body with 25* injectors, etc., etc. ....

Well, it's a start ... joining the big bore club ... all right, who's next ...?
