Velcro works better in my experience.

oh **** i just re-read and now understand the OP's post!

i thought he was saying he just took the fob off and rode with it in his pocket, but now i see he came up with a way to turn the bike on, remove the key, put key in pocket, and ride.

good stuff!

What's wrong with using your key to start the bike, and the built in neck lock for security, end of story?
Nothing's wrong with the old way, it's just that the new way is both easier and better. With the keyless system you can't accidentally leave you key in the bike, and if you lose or somehow break your key you won't be stranded because you can still start the bike.

Plus, it's nice to simply hop on the bike and start it. No embarrassing moments of getting on, pulling out your key, and then dropping it as you go to put it into the ignition, putting the bike on the stand again, getting the key, and trying again. lol

Default 7,000 miles of "Fob Scuff"

I did the best I could to polish out the 7,000 miles of fob scuff.

It looks like my '09 Street Bob is permanently scuffed.

I wish I had known about the "grind off the key nub" technique when the bike was brand new.

I got sick of the fob flopping around too, but only after it left the scuff circle as previously pictured. I finally made a cordage key chain, and took a clip off a wallet chain to put on the fob. When my key/fob go in the hat at home after empting pockets, I clip them together, cause I don't want to forget one or the other filling pockets to leave. I take them apart and clip the fob to a belt loop.

You got a picture of the key?

Is it just if you have the security system that you have to use the key to make it run? I carry my key with me, but rarely ever use it. When I do it's usually just to lock or unlock the ignition. I never have to ride with it in.

Default Street Bob Key with nub removed

There are two Harley keys. The one with the nub still on is for my '03 Road King. The one with the nub ground off is for my '09 Street Bob.

The Road King ignition does not lock the key in place like on the Dyna's with the frame mounted ignition. The Road King key still has the nub. I thought it was part of the unlocking mechanism, but it isn't. On the Road King the nub has no function.

I used a Dremel tool with a cylindrical abrasive "belt". Ground the nub off in 15 seconds. I started with a hand file, but it was too slow.
