I'm a "new to me" 06 Dyna owner. This seems an extrememly active forum with lots of nook and crannies.
I'm seeking opinions on the pros/cons of installing an oil-cooler. Pointing me to a relevant thread would be helpful. Or just provide your experience, would be appreaciated.
Been riding non-stop since 1969 but haven't had a Harley since 1976. Thanks for any input in advance.
Except for the expense and getting your hands dirty, I agree that there are only positives in putting on a cooler.
I put one on mine and would do it again. Make sure you get one with a thermostat and ensure you have all the tools you'll need. Mine needed a 7/16" (as best as I can recall) Allen style wrench to get off the oil filter adapter and to install the oil cooler adapter that goes on behind the filter.
Have them on both of mine. Peace of mind. If you get one that doesn't have a built-in thermostat, just cover it when temps are anticipated to be below 50*

I used a lockheart cooler off an older HD, then Chad had a jack plate to run off the stock oil filter.. worked out great, and i got to mount it higher for more air flow... total cost was $50 bucks!
Is anyone here running an oil cooler on their Dyna WITH thermostatically controlled cooling fans for the oil cooler? If you have the cooler and no fans did you do any testing with an oil temp gauge to see how much of a measurable cooling effect was achieved with the oil cooler added and the bike standing still?
Luckily I have all winter to make a decision on installing one. Riding in Texas in the summer can be a real roaster oven, especially when stuck in stop and go traffic.
