Default Fat Bob

Hey all,

I am new to this forum but I would like some opinions on getting a new Fat Bob. I test drove the Fat Bob and loved the handling and torque. i would definitely need to get used to the extra vibrations.
I currently own a Night Rod Special and although I LOVE my DX, the riding position is uncomfortable for anything longer than 30 min. I am wanting to do some longer day trips and maybe a couple of over-nighters a year.
I was thinking the Fat Bob would still be a nice, powerful cruiser but with enough comfort for longer rides. Am I right?
I am working with a dealer who is going to give me a good enough deal to put a 103 Big Bore kit on the Fat Bob with Rush Slip-ons and tuning. Is the 103 kit worth the money?
Am I crazy for trading a Night Rod Special for a Fat Bob?

If I decide to keep the NRS, will getting a sundowner seat help with longer rides?

Thanks for your opinions.

Been thinking of a Fat Bob myself. Currently own a FLSTC w/96K on the clock so trade in is out of the question. I just love the looks of it.

Haven't ridden a Night Rod Special or any of the Rod line. . . so I'm not able to directly compare the two.

I would say that I IMAGINE (vividly) that the Fat Bob would be more comfortable for longer trips because I took two long trips this summer, 8,000 miles nearly, 11 days in the saddle total on the road. No windshield or lowers. The Corbin seat really helps, the saddlebags help, but even stock, I had no trouble being on the bike for a tankful. I would be pretty certain you would too.

If you liked the handling, well, you know you got something because your bike is a pretty good handler too, right?

I just have a stage one setup, no engine work, and so I don't know if the bore kit would be "worth it." I really feel the bike in stock displacement is plenty powerful. It's the most exciting bike I've had.

I love my Fat Bob, have since I brought home exactly three years ago. I say: consider it seriously.

I love my Fat Bob, but I've ridden a VRod and I like it too. Can't give an opinion about changing the seat. To me the Fat Bob is great on long rides. The big tires are the same size as RK tires. But if this is what you really want, check out a Street Glide.

BTW, if I was gonna do all that I wouldn't throw away money on Rush Mufflers. I'd get a real exhaust system. I had Rush Slipons w/two inch baffles on my Fat Bob. The quality was great but I couldn't stand the sound. Wish I had put that money towards the Fat Cat that I have on it now.

Its gonna feel odd after the Rod, which to me feels more like riding a Jap bike with the high revs, smooth engine and great handling. I'd say the Rod is kinda limited in its flexibility though, being more of a bar-hopper than something I'd want to do a lot of miles on. The one I rode was nice but not in a Harley way.

I have a Fat Bob and its great, an excellent all-round cruiser with a touch of sportiness but its never going to pull as well and reach a top end that the Rod can.

As for the big cc kit...kinda OK but it doesn't really add huge numbers considering the expense and bother. Oh, it will pull better and put an even bigger grin on your face but it won't make it a sport bike and if that's what you like then stick with the Rod.

I definitely have always felt some vibration on my Fat Bob, it's not overwhelming at all, it's not like my old '72 Sportster, or a vintage Brit bike, but it's there. . . and I like it. A lot! I don't want to not feel the engine below me.

The Fatbob is a super handling bike, it's that front tire. I've had mine on long tours and I mean long and it's great. Comfy, great handling and badass looks, what more could you want.
I've got a stage 1 with V&H 2 into 1 pro pipes and a K&N filter, it gives me all the power I need even fully loaded with all my camping stuff, clothes and wifes stuff.

I've had mine for only three months, but man I love it... I took it for a weekend in the alps. We rode 350 miles in one afternoon and I was quite impressed with the comfort overall... I would just like to have mid pegs to be able to change riding positions when on the highway.

I also love the torque compared to my ex Honda CB1000 R.

I've always dreamed of a night rod special as well, but the riding position doesn't seem perfect...
