Kinda surprised that you're uncomfortable on the Night Rod Special after only 30 mins. A couple of years ago a friend and I rented bikes in Vegas and he chose the Night Rod Special (he loved it and may be interested in buying yours). We averaged 300 miles or more each day and he has a bad back!
Anyhow I think you will likely be real happy with the Fat Bob, and I would suggest you do some work to the motor to improve the performance over stock, or you will be dissappointed especially coming off a Night Rod. Much different ride as I am sure you know.
Good luck with your decision.

I currently own a Night Rod Special and although I LOVE my DX, the riding position is uncomfortable for anything longer than 30 min. I am wanting to do some longer day trips and maybe a couple of over-nighters a year.
I was thinking the Fat Bob would still be a nice, powerful cruiser but with enough comfort for longer rides. Am I right?
I am working with a dealer who is going to give me a good enough deal to put a 103 Big Bore kit on the Fat Bob with Rush Slip-ons and tuning. Is the 103 kit worth the money?
Am I crazy for trading a Night Rod Special for a Fat Bob?
If I decide to keep the NRS, will getting a sundowner seat help with longer rides?
congrats on your choice!! have had mine about a year and I LOVE IT!!! I may never buy a different bike...ok, well maybe, but I will always have this one!
I've ridden pretty much everything HD makes and own a 10 Fat Bob. I really like the VRod line but feel like the FB has much more charachter and gives you quite a bit more room and comfort. I believe the handling is just as good if not better than the Night Rod. Most people say that it's the best handling air cooled Harley since the FXR. One word of suggestion though. Do not let the dealer put Rush mufflers on your bike. They sound like **** in plain English. For the 350 bucks they will charge you you can get a pair of V&H short shots.
