1800 VTX are not like the dyna forks... even the larger st bob forks are 49 mm and the VTX runs inverted forks that are wider

I bought the MS Batwing a few weeks ago for my 2009 FXDC. I did a mock-up using
the HD clamp type quick release windshield mounts and, while the width is actually spot on,
the HD mounts are way too long and not worth modifying so I'm going to have the local
shop make some mounts for me. (I have no fabrication capability).

The turn signals will have to be relocated below the Batwing and I'm not happy with
the crash bar mounted Kuryakan bullet driving lights so I'm going to do some more
research on what driving lights and turn signal combos I can use before going further
and I will be fitting a 7 inch main headlight.

I'd like to do something different than the classic "bagger" signal / light combo so
I think I may continue to use some form of crash bar mounts.

I get my first Social Security check in about two weeks so I won't actually do anything
before then...

Wish I could do a QD batwing on my Fat Bob. Don't want to change the headlight.

On the VTX you have to remove the fork covers.

MS uses the quick release system. If you want to put it on a bike that MS doesnt specificly offer a mounting kit for you will need to go to a Honda/Yamaha/Kawasaki dealer with a tape measure and find a set of forks that are close in width and diameter to what you want to put it on.

The quick release is designed to mount directly on the fork tubes, not on covered forks.

The Honda guys were all over this about 2 years ago.

Well, I kinda have the whole fabbing thing down now.

so....

1. It WILL work
2. I will pass it on here, so everyone can have one, if they wish.

Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving in advance,

Mike......no problem

If you get some clamps for the fork tubes, you can use them, as I did.

I'll try to find a pic.....needless to say...no casue for alarm....blinkers are relatively easy to move about...I'll help ya, if you want.

Since you are on fixed income, myself, and a few guys on here can think of a way for you to do this cheap. Doing this stuff, and being forced to eat dog food, ain't right.

Take care for YOU 1st, THEN the bike.

Default Very Interested in the results

I have a 2009 FXD that I am considering putting a bat wing fairing on. Looking forward to how this all turns out.

Do you still get the wind buffeting with the bat wing like you do with the shield?

LOL!! Thanks, Joe!

The SS is on top of a pension so things ain't bad.. just need to be a bit cautious.

I'm going to order a set of clamps and have the local indy shop make some brackets. I
bought the fairing through them (Memphis does not sell directly), and they said they'd be
happy to make them for me at a reasonable price.
