Default Goodbye Sloptail, Hello Fat Bob!!!!

Well boys, my softail days are behind me.

Forget the AAFES deal overseas (Afghanistan).. one of my platoon sergeants found a Fat Bob in Ft. Bragg after searching Craigslist (he knew i was interested). I'll be home just before Christmas so I sent the OL and Brother-in-law to check it out it out. Deal is done.

2008 Fat Bob w/9,100 miles
Denim Black, Vance and Hines Short Shots Pipes, Screamin Eagle Intake, and Power Commander Programmer.
Many parts already powder coated.
NADA Value is from $11,300 to $13,500
Sold for $11,000 to include all stock parts and he even threw in a Super Glide rear fender.

I'm pumped. With the money I'm saving I want to immediately lift the tank (not sure about 2' or 3")

I'm also thinking about immediately changing out the headlights (don't want the dual headlights to make it look metric). Any advice? Another caveat to the headlights is I was thinking about adding a Night Rod style headlight cowl to a single headlight. Any ideas on how to do that?

Also, When it's time for new rubber, can the stock rim and front fender handle a 140mm or 150mm tire?

When it's time for new rear tire, I want to go 200mm and swap out the rear fender with the Super Glide (or maybe get a wide glide). Are there any suggestions for:
1) a kit to move the license plate (i've seen in various threads someone discussing a side mount, or even one that let you flip the plate vertical or horizontal, and i think someone found a kit that fit right up to the rear fender).
2) How hard would it be to cut the Super Glide fender to highlight a new 200mm
3) Can I fit a 200mm on the stock rim? Which tire should I get?
4) Taillight - I saw in a thread, but can't find it now, somebody linked to a shop in Europe that made a badass led light that fit right under the rear fender. I mean, all you saw was a line of red LED lights peeking out from the back of the fender. What was that place (Black-something) and how can i find that taillight?

Thanks guys. Any help is much appreciated. I redeploy from Afghanistan in 3 weeks and I'd like to get some of the parts ready for me when I get home and take some vacation time.

Nice deal. Congrats on scoring the new ride and it all sounds like a plan. Don't know about that wheel size fit but some one here will. I don't like that dual head light either. Stay safe and thanks for your service.

Congrats man and thanks or your service. I went with a 2" tank lift on mine and put a Fatboy headlight on it. Not sure about the nightrod setup though.

Sounds like you scored a sweet deal on the Fat Bob! Congrats, your new ride! All the mods you questioned "can" be done. Just keep searching the forum (and web) and you'll more than enough ways to spend the money you saved....

Congrats on the new ride you won't be disappointed in it. As stated earlier some one here will be able to tell you about your mods that you want to do. I bought mine a month before heading out for Iraq. So I'm not sure exactly what can be done yet. Can't wait to get home and do some riding!

Congrats on the deal and thanks for your service!

For your plans,

1) You'll have to either widen the Super Glide fender or get spacers to fill the gap. The Super Glide runs a narrower rear tire and the frame struts are narrower as well. Another option would be to cut the fender down the middle and add in the necessary metal. Someone on here did it already, can't remember who off the top of my head.

2) Not too hard to cut the fender, just get a cut off tool and mark it up where you want.

3) You can fit a 200mm on the stock rim, it's just kinda tight. The Fat Bob rim is 5" and a 200mm is normally put on a 5.5". Just check the tire manufacturer's website to verify that their 200 will fit on a 5" rim.

4) No idea on the tail light, sorry.

Thanks Phrogman, I think i can be a little adventurous with the Super Glide fender since i'm getting it for free! Thanks for the info on the stock FB rim size. I think I saw some threads discussing good tire matches.

I did find the website for the LED brake light in my browser history: www.black-Way.com it's in switzerland or geneva or somewhere they speak french. I couldn't find the picture from the thread. Hopefully it turns up - it was very nice.

If i go with the 3" lift for the fuel tank, how hard is it to extend the lines to make sure everything reaches?

If I could figure out if the Night Rod headlight cowl can be adapted for use on a light replacement for my Fat Bob, I'd probably knock out that mod with the tank lift over Christmas break.

I'll keep searching the forums, but will periodically try and keep this thread alive for my own selfish reasons! I'm not exactly a pro at searching these forums... and it's like drinking from a fire hose. I consume so much information, but I can never find it again when i want it! Plus, now that I signed up, i have to wait THREE MORE EXCRUCIATING DAYS before I can look at all the pretty thumbnail pictures! My 5 days will come soon.

If you look at the very bottom of the page, you will find a link to change the french into english.
