Default Changing Lower Legs

Alright boys and girls.. Before you tell me to look in the manual and all that BS - hush - I am looking for some step-by-step info on how to change lowers. I don't have a garage or a bunch of great tools - just the basics.. and a car jack. I acquired a set of black lowers that I want to install on my Bob. Can anyone tell me how to do it without having to take it to a shop?

I have a 2010 fxdb and the front is completely stock (other than apes and whatnot).

Maybe there is a thread with pix on that?
What are the steps and which tools will I need to make the switch? I worry cause of the brake caliper - I would hate to f* something up.

As far as the floor jack goes. That is what I used to use. Place it under the front lower motor mount frame bracket with the jack facing out to the side of the bike. With someone holding the bars to help keep the bike steady and the bike in gear slowly jack the bike up. Once you get it up where you want it place 2x6 boards under the front of the frame just behind the jack and then lower the bike down onto the 2x6 boards. I believe it takes about 5 boards to get the front wheel up off of the ground. Here is a pic of the setup.

There are many fine members here to help you. I put this PDF together as well as a few films to help you. If you have 10K+ miles on the bike pull them apart and put new bushings and clean them out as per movie. I do them that way because they need to be done that way as per film.

Are you putting on those black lowers you picked up a while back? Im pretty excited to see them on your scoot. Post up how easy it was using the tools you had. Looks like you and I are in the same boat!

Yes! I have them waiting in the box... hoping for some free time soon to do it. Sooo... do I have to take the fork off? or can I leave the whole thing on - just slide the lowers off and put the new ones on? I'm not ignorant just have no idea what I'm suppose to be doing

I haven't ever changed lowers, but i know that there is alot more involved than just sliding the stock lower off and sliding the new one on. If you worried about the break caliper on this mod I would recommend taking this project to a shop, because that should be the least of your worries. A indy shouldnt charge much and this would be better than damaging something then taking it to the shop. I understand that you already have the lowers, but maybe you should consider painting the lowers on your bike, this would be alot easier, considering the lack of tools and expierence.
