Default Project bike

I've been wanting to get another project bike and this time actually do all the building myself. Well if anyone has read General Discussions you will see that this past week I basically turned my Super Glide into a project bike.

I'm going to go slow, but would like some opinions on what's dooable and what is cost effective when working on the FXDC's and their love of all things chrome-y.

First thing I'm wanting to do after I get the new front end (stock) on is to change out the exhaust. A friend at work has a 2004 Road King with some upgraded exhaust, I haven't looked at it really hard to know specifically what it is, but the sound is not much louder than mine, but it's a very deep satisfying rumble. So that's this question. What slipon upgrades are out there that don't increase sound much but give you a much throatier rumble?

I run SEII balony cut mufflers:

SCREAMIN’ EAGLEŽ PRO II SLIP-FIT MUFFLERS – DYNA
Fit ’95-later Dyna models.
EFI models require ECM recalibration through applicable calibration cartridge or through EFI Race Tuner Kit. See EFI Race Tuner Kit fitment or calibration matrix for possible application.

I like Cycle shack pipes, they are inexpensive, perform very well, a full replacement, and sound great IMO. They will be slightly louder than SE mufflers.

I am building a 1997 FXD right now. Here is the thread, might give you some ideas.
