Default Project Ex-Con My new Dyna build

Just picked up a Dyna today....From the Police Station!!

Hence the name Ex-Con. It was a police siezed vehicle. I won it today in a Ebay auction for the low low price of $3150!!!

Its a 1997 Dyna low rider with 11,500 miles.

So I was told, the bike was used in a police chase that ended up in a small wreck. The driver was drunk (second DUI) and ran from the police. I guess he hit a curb and bent the forks, dented the tank, bent the fender, bent the rim, and the exhaust got some slight damage. It runs, just needs a good tune. Full throttle it falls on its face and dies.

Joe Knapp and I had some serious build ideas for the bike, but now my wife has been lookin at it and said..."Depending on what it looks like done, I may want to learn to ride" So that makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy she wants to ride, sad we cant cut it up too much.

Enough with the chit chat, here is the bike.

My wife checkin out the new bike

Sweet Score, There is a complete 49mm Front end in the classifieds for 500 smackers, and I also saw a dual disc FXDX front end complete recently for 500 smackers with a mag.

What a deal! The pics look great, so the damage must be minor.

Couldn't see any bend in the forks. By the way, I severely bent some 42mm forks during a cross country race many years ago. I had to ride back 10 miles to the pits, with a broken back, by riding in huge circles because the forks were bent back so far that the front tire would hit the frame's front down tube.

The tubes were really bent, but the point of my story is that I had the tubes straightened at a shop. They returned looking like new and never leaked or gave me problems.

Sounds like a nice buy, but slightly over budget for this build. I found a 41mm wide glide front end for under $400 and I already have a 21" wheel from my WG

Here is the bend forks shot. The tubes are twisted, but the tree stop is sheared off the left side. Gotta replace the trees so they dont damage the new tank.

Ah ... yeah ... you can see where the front right side of the tank got bashed in by the fork when the stop sheared off the triple tree ....

Can see a little of the damage to the top triple tree and fork tube, but still kind of hard to tell the forks are twisted from the photos ....

Pretty good looking Evo Low Rider ... really, you might be able to get a decent Evo motor for around $2,500 ... so even though you will have to drop a little coin to get that bad boy up and running ... it is a screamin' deal ....

Keep us posted ....

You scored a pretty good deal! All in all it doesn't look like it's going to be that big of a fix, mostly easy stuff. Any idea how long the bike sat before it went up for auction? Just curious after seeing the spark plugs.
