[QUOTE=redrubicon2004;7468771]
If it werent for the budget, I would cut the struts off, move them out and use a 02-05 fender that is 1" wider and use a 150 tire with a new sprocket/pulley and belt.

But that would cost about $225 for the pulley and belt, $125 for the tire, and then I would still need a fender, tail light, signals.....It never stops!

I have a '97 Wide Glide and did NOT have to cut the struts to run a 150 on the rear. Just had to change to a (1 1/8" belt - still have and for sale) and new pulley, and obviously a 150 tire.

If you are going to cut the struts, go big - go to a 180 like I did and used the stock swingarm. I believe I am running an '06+ Softail fender and LED HD Tri-Bar tailight.

Got the gauge mount today, the gas tank and finally mounted up the rear fender.

It does, I can't quite put my finger on it. I think I should have skipped the idiot lights. I couldnt move them up any higher because the cross bar was in the way.

Joe suggested curving it in a little between the mount bar and the gauge, but there isnt much room there.

With the bar across the bars being square, its kind of hard to make that part look better. Putting the idiot lights above the bar would expose the wiring from the front of the bike.....Just no winning.....If you guys have ideas I am all ears. I would like to keep the idiot lights for my wife if she does ride it.

Round the edges inward to follow the roundness of the speedo face. Then slightly round the edges at the top of it just to soften the edge a bit.

Man I thought you were gonna bend those antlers down? You gotta fix those bars Hoss. They look like bug antenna or sumtin!

I think it doesn't look too bad ... couple of suggestions FWIW ...

(i) maybe consider a bend so from the side the face of the speedo is at 90 degree angle to the bars ... thus:

(ii) consider fabricating a chrome cover to go between the bars where they originate above the triple tree to the speedo ... thus concealing the wiring from the front view ... (kind of like the XL1200C Custom) ....

Just a couple of thoughts on the subject ...

Actually, I don't think it looks bad as is ...

Dig the stretched tank ... looking good so far ....

I was actually thinking the same thing. I will check to see how much clearence I have betwee the wiring and the cross bar and see how much bend I can put in it. Right now it does kinda point just over my head. I do have access to a brake, just not sure how well it will like 10 gauge steel.

The stretched tank is kinda cool. A few things I dont like about it.
1. petcock is front left side, not rear...WTF?
2. The top seems really flat and the tank seems really wide.
3. The seat opening is too far forward

Since the new rear fender doesnt go down very far under the seat, I had to make a cover for the frame where the main harness comes down the backbone. I'll have it powdered the same color as the frame.
