It keeps changing. I think it will be about $8k when done. I am going to have the tank air brushed so it's going to eat up a bit of money.
New tank, fenders, tires, signals, headlight, new seals, sealed bearing wheels, updated calipers and rotors, honed jugs and new rings, headwork and cam....should be like a new bike for $8k not a bad deal IMO
Hey Chad ... couple of quick questions WRT the first and third photo of your motor paint job ...
- lacquer thinner in the first photo ... did you use that to strip the powder off the parts before you painted them or just cleaned them with it ...?
- third photo ... did you hit the parts with primer first ... is that gray primer ...? If so, was it the self etching primer ...?
I'm not sure if the silver motors in 97 were painted or powder coated. It was really hard to tell. We did use the lacquer thinner to clean all the parts. When cleaning the trans and front of the engine, small areas of the original coating did start to slightly lift off and a small amount of corrosion was there. We then wire brushed those areas really good and cleaned with thinner agian. Some other areas where we were scrubbing did thin to the point where you could see the metal under. The coating what ever it was, was on there pretty damn good. I dont know how powder coat stands up to lacquer thinner. Joe?
We did primer the parts first with Dupli-Color's engine primer. We put on a pretty thin coat. The pics look pretty heavy, but that might be because the silver and grey look pretty similar on a camera phone in a hazy garage.
ya know... i am not sure, i see no reason why it wouldeat though powder... ill run it past sean and see if he knows or not... Chad him me up tomorrow ill be in the shop most of the day, got to get the wing out for a shake down run and if you wnat to head into the shop after that and we can toss those parts in the oven for a bit to get a cure on them wiht heat. i would be willing to bet the bank that those where painted...(from the factory) it came up way to easy for powder
looks awesome! love that finish man!
