Ready to Install New HandleBars, What else do I need?
Ok,
I have my new 14" apes from Hill Country Customs, internally wired, HD plug on the end. What else do I need to have on hand before I start the install?
Looking through the Service Manual, I need transmission clutch cover (I know that's not what it's called) gasket when I change the shift cable, which also means I need transmission fluid. I need to remove my exhaust to get to the clutch cover, which translates into I will need exhaust gasket. Changing out the Front Brake cable, need DOT 5 Brake fluid.
Is there anything else I'm missing before I make the run to the store to get all this?
i got my cables from them after i got the clutch cable out the new clutch cable had to be ground down just a little but for it to fit... poly bushing also, huge difference... thats all i can think of... new grips/mirrors since your changing bars anyway... ok thats it...
I have the samson exhaust not the street sweeper but rip saws but I didn't have to remove my exhaust to take off the transmission side cover. If i remember correctly i just used a small allen key to take off the bottom screws. also i didn't lose but a few drops of transmission fluid in the process and didn't need to replace it. Good luck on the new project.
I picked up the gasket for the transmission side cover and a couple of exhaust gaskets "just in case". I'm taking some time off from work for a few days next week and plan on doing the install of the handlebars, HD turn signal relocation kit, mirrors and Tach (http://www.jpcycles.com/product/5600017) . Hopefully I'll be able to get my grip loose from the left side of the handlebars without ruining the rubber so I can re-use it.
