The stage one download is not "Crap". It will modify your VE tables, timing, and some other factors to match the charactoristics of HD Stage One items. It is not however a performance tune but it should make your bike run better after after an HD stage One.
An add on should not invalidate your warrantee. If you have problems, take it off before your bike goes to the shop.
The TTS has an almost cult like following. Having used the SEPST since 2008 and reading the TTS manual and looking at the TTS software I think the biggest difference is going to be in the area of support. With the SEPST your dealer is the support channel, with the TTS, Steve Cole makes himself available to support his product on several boards.

Just talked to my local dealer in Wilmington today and he said he has maps from bikes that have already been dyno tuned so all I really need is to buy the sepst and he will download the map for free. Sounds like that's the route I am leaning towards. And you are 100% right, stage one is not a performance tune but more of a "get the lean out" tune and extend the life of the motor!
Wow, I'm in the same situation, so I really appreciate all the info here. Have become familiar with the pipe options, now exploring the tuners and air intakes.

fyi. you can get the protuner from zanotti's for $358 instead of the $459 my dealer wants to charge. everything at zanotti's is way cheaper than prices listed in the hd parts catalog. good luck and let me know how your tune turns out!
I have the SE Pro Super Tuner on my 2010 and a SERT on my 2006. What it basically boils down to is the tuner's comfort with the product (be it yourself or a shop).
My tuner assures me he can tune my SE 120R just fine with the SERT and that there is no reason to "upgrade" the tuner.
As noted TTS has good features and a significant following on the forums because it is effective and easy to use. That being said, if you are uncomfortable doing any tuning yourself, best go with the tool the tuner you plan to use suggests.
Another feature on the sepst is the smart tune. You can record data and make changes based on your riding style. Its pretty cool little feature if you ever wanted to play around with

I'm glad you put this out there. I got mine from Zanotti's.

I disagree, and I'll say it again... the Stage.1 download is crap. I had it on my bike for about 2k miles when I did the Stage.1 at the 1K service.
I didn't know how badly my bike ran, or shook... till I did an initial tune with my TTS. I was absolutely shocked... it was a completely different bike.
... oh... and I'm not in a cult...

ok so after a lot of deliberation I just ordered my TTS (was leaning towards the T-Max). I have stage 1 AC & SE slip on's w/ stage 1 download. I agree it's not a performance map, and initially had a lot of decel pop but that has diminsihed over the last 500 miles or so. BUT I can feel it's still not running to full potential. Anxious to try a TTS map, but after looking at the canned choices don't see one for the basic mods I have done - any recommendations??
