My brother-in-law has a buddy that has a '99
glide that he wants to get rid of. 11k mileage,
asking 7,500. is there any problems with these
other than normal wear items that would be good
to check out??? still waiting on pics and will go
check it out soon. Black is all I know right now,
any pics of ya'lls bikes would be great if any are
of this description.
First year for TC88 I believe. You will have the old style cam chain tensioners but can upgrade to the hydraulic ones for $450. If the bike is EFI you have the Magnetti Marelli FI system which is not as robust as the Delphi. But that's about it. $7500 seems steep to me but if the bike is a one owner and well maintained then it might be worthwhile. But it would have to be in mint condition.
And besides the cam tensioner issue the first year (1999) of the twincam engine had bearing problems. It should also be noted that some of the 2000 Dynas had engines made in 1999, so 2000 is also a suspect year for crank bearing failure.
Not every 1999 twincam had bearing issues, but enough did that there was a "HARLEY" extended warrenty specifically for those engines!
And I should also add, as with the tensioner failure, the bearing failure was extensive metalic contaminations through the entire engine!
+1 on the cam bearing fiasco, need to ask the seller or contact HD with VIN to verify if bearings have been replaced. I think HD requirements were 5 years or 50k miles.
This is a 99 FXD that I picked up 3 yrs. ago.
I have done a few upgrades, 98" Hillside, 42 mik. Short Shots, Wide Glide front end with Hill Country apes, headlight,Sent the stock wheels away to get smoothed out and then chromed. Lots of chrome and a couple of choices for seats. My daughter has rode it the last two yrs. to Sturgis and back and it has run super. She has surprised a lot of guys with its power. TT
