I am really curious now about the buffeting. I had none with either the detachable Harley 16 inch or the Windvest 16". Maybe wearing a full face helmet, I just don't feel it because of my big melon head? Some folks seem to really have a problem with it while others on the same type of bike don't have the problem.

For longer trips, a tent, pad, and sleeping bag lashed to the front of a sissy-bar make for an awesome backrest. Younger bro rides that way on his '04 Wide. I like that, plus the wind-break & protection of the QD 'shield on my '06 Wide.
I get more buffeting with my windshield on then I do without it. I'm 6' 2" so I'm just a little too tall for my windshield.
I tried the distressed leather seat and didn't like it. Without the back rest I felt like I was being pushed backwards out of the seat. I don't recall that with the stock seat.
I just use the windsheld as a bug and rock deflector.
My backrest is 5'6", blonde, and would never let me have a backrest. She says it would interfere w/ her getting close. Windshield is a must on a trip, so is she. Next question?
