I am similar to 11bdad, but I went with the Nelson-Rigg Tank/Tail bag (I was really torn between the two bags). It works great, holds lots of gear, is waterproof, and has several different mounting options. http://www.nelsonrigg.com/store/product.aspx?pid=1646
I also use bungee straps for rolling a coat and strapping to my handlebars. Check these out: http://bungeebitchstrap.com/
I have the Kuryakyn Daily Tour for work and quick trips and the Ultra Tour for me and the wife for long trips. Both together is more than enough storage.
I had one of the sissy bar bags from Harley. It worked pretty good bus was kind of unsightly. It was one of the round bags. The word of caution I would have is that that nylon material will fade pretty quickly. It faded to a sort of dark purplish color in only a few months. Of course I ride to work every day so the bike sits out in the sun a lot. I got saddlebags and got rid of the sissy bar bag and I'm a lot happier with them. I also have the luggage rack and between it and the bags I can haul everything I need.
Those saddlebags that are pictured, what type are they?
I've bought inexpensive leather sadd.le bags off ebay (throwovers)then converted them to mount to my easyy brackets... Fox creek makes some real nice bags if you want to spend that kind of money. I took the throw overs unhooked them in the middle and folded the seat part against the bag and mouted the easybracket so it holds the fold to the bag. easybracket was the most expensive part. If you want you can cary just one bag or two.
I was watching a show last night where they have a sissy bar and saddle bags all one piece and it a quick release takes about 15 sec to remove. Can't remember the show name. Maybe someone else can.
Sounds like the show was Two Wheel Thunder. If it was, the bike was a Rocker that had the removeable bags and baskrest. The seat was also attached.
I went with throw over bags and you don't have to relocate the taillights. They are removed in about 5 minutes. Also added the luggage rack for more stuff to be carried. Thats the bad thing about the 10 Wide Glide, not to many options as far as bags. Any hard bags and the tail lights have to be relocated.
I just purchased my fisrt HD a month ago and luv it...only problem I have is I need either a rack to tie down a bag or side bags. I'm not sure what I want but don't want to take away from the lines of the bike.
BLUF: I'm a female rider and would like to ride to work, but need something that I can fit a pair of shoes and purse in.
First, welcome to HD & welcome to our forum! Please introduce yourself in the QOTR(Queens of the Road), under the "This n That" Section.
I have 2 handlebar/fork bags as "mini" saddlebags. I also love the solo look so I have the rack, with a cargo net I use. I also have the quick detach passenger pillion with backrest I can use to hold someone or a bigger bag with bungees. Before I got the rack I used a cute mailbag style bag. Good luck with your decision. Oh yeah, Walmart sells some pretty inexpensive waterproof bags in their camping section. I got 3 bags all different sizes in one little compact package.
