I am trying to decide what size bars to get for my dyna. Are the stock risers on a dyna 1 inch? Am I correct in assuming that if you order 13inch apes , after they are installed you will have a 14 inch rise? I do not want more than 14 inches in heigth so I should not order 14inch apes. Is this correct? Thanks for any help or advice you can give!!1
On my '08 FXDC, the stock risers are 2", as measured from the top triple tree.
What I did, when I was thinking about installing apes.. was install some take-offs from a street bob to see if I liked the setup. I think I did the whole thing for under 100 bucks... bars, cables and brake lines... by using someone else's take-offs.
My current bars are fat-minis (10.5"), but they are on 4" fat risers... so they are about the same height as 14" bars.... now this was measured against a friends street bob... which has almost no riser... I would consider the built in risers in the SB to be 1".
You can mimmick your own bars with cheap 1" PVC tubing from Home Depot to find the height you would like. A few bucks and a measuring tape will save you a lot of money and trouble.
I used to think 16" apes would fit me fine. I think did the sit on the bike. throw out my arms and seen where my arms ended up. Took a tape...well, stock street bob apes and 2" Lonerindustries riser extensions fit me perfect. I also ended up rolling the bars forward a bit too.
Cheap and easy to do.
If you find that height works, SB apes and those risers can be cheaper to buy than aftermarket apes! Also remember..not all bars have the same measurements. Some have more pull back, width, etc....and everyone measures different too.
Great Idea with the pvc, I was going to say use some sort of wire to rig some mot height apes up. The stock apes are around 12" I just so happen to have some extras off my new bob if you want em pm me

If you go for 1.25 bars, and they are not "narrow bottom" you may hit the top of your fork tubes (street bob has crappy integrated riser). I had a set of Z bars before switching to Burly bars and they hit the top of the fork tubes. With the 14 Burlys I didn't have to change wire harness length but had to go to +6 over stock on throttle, idle and clutch. Attached pics, one with Z bars other with Burlys.

What you also can do is have a friend with measuring tape and you sit on bike, close your eyes and extend your arm out that is comfortable, your friend measures the rise, width, and pull. Good luck
