I ordered the 14 inch ape hangers prewired with all the housings and levers chromed and hooked up. Everything comes installed on the bars all I have to do is remove old bars and put new ones on and hook up to the wiring harness. I ordered these from Hill Country Custom Cycles. They were very helpful and hooked me up for a small fee...lol!! Now I need some advice on how to hook them up to the wirng harness. I need advice as far as taking the tank off and any tips that will help me finish the install. Thanks for the previous advice on my other post about which apes to order. Thanks for any help you can give!!!! Casey
You don't have to remove the tank completely. Just undo the bolts and slide it back 3 inches, but make sure you put a towel on the top of the motor so the clamps from the fuel cross over don't scratch the top of the motor and be careful you don't pull the wire on the left side on the back bone. Also first thing is to remove the quick disconnect on the fuel line. Then under the neck is the wiring for everything. Remove the plastic cover, pull out the wiring. Figure out which set you need and start wiring.

I haven't read through the whole thread but I have just one thing to say: I agree with every one of the folks who said get yourself a service manual. It's the BEST accessory you can buy.
And post up some pics once you get your new bars on - if there are no pics, it didn't happen. :-)
Side note - when you go to wire up, make record of what connects to where, so that later down the road you have something to remember what is connected to what. It helps later when you need to get work done or rewire... saves you the headache of guessing.
Manual? dont need no stinking manual! We have the wanders of the forum and you-tube, back in the day yes, but now we have so many options, I wouldn't buy a manual for handlebars?
Take the tank off, (unless you feel comfartable sliding back)its alot easier to get to things and not that hard except for the gas thing, make sure tank is empty and be ready for gas spillage when you slide the one hose on bottom,(look in you-tube)
Go to gooseneck and take out the plastic plate, unhook the wiring.then reconnect new.
Search here for clutch cable disconnect and connect,(under one of my threads)
I didnt do idle/throttle yet so I might be eating my own words and have to buy manual lol!! But I did disconnect with no problem, just reconnecting might be issue?
Replace the stock riser bushings with the Poly, replace the two piece bar clamps with the single clamp and use a torque wrench, your life depends on it.
