Just installed tt on 08 fatbob. Nut on heim joint on front mount
almost touches down tube. Tank off., not able to start bike,..
Is this normal? Sure looks like it is gonna hit with motor running
thx
The pics posted here are of my installation. I had the same situation. The nut was WAY too close to the down tube. I ended up eliminating the washer(s) between the Heim joint and the nut. I now have just a tad less than 3/32" between the nut and the down tube (measured with drill bit shank), and have had no problems.
Links to my installation tips are here (but I neglected to mention this tip/change somehow. Also note that when I say "hex head," I meant to say "socket head."):
On my 09 FXDC, the left end fouled the mounting bracket for the crash bars and I
had to have the crash bars' flange cut away and a new bar fitting made. It's tight....
don't wanna sound stupid... but here it goes, what is the purpose of thie tru-trac system?? can someone please enlighten me
The engine/trans/rear wheel assembly are mounted on rubber into the frame. Many Harley models have rubber mounts, to improve our comfort, also to isolate vibration from the rest of the bike and improve reliability.
Rubber gives! That can affect handling and the True-Track kit provides lateral stabilizers to prevent the rubber mounts giving sideways, keeping the whole bike in better alignment.
The result is more precise steering and better handling, while letting the mounts do their main purpose. Well worth the effort and expense! I have their kits on my Dyna and Glide.
