Question DIY custom seat?

Anyone try to do their own modifications to their seat? And, will pre-2005 seat solo and separate pillion pans fit 2006 and up models. The attraction to the pre 2006 pans is bolt together design.

I just modded my seat, probably more extreme than most but i cut the pan down about 3 inches in width and shaved the foam down a lot. It is about 1/2" to 3/4" thick at the most.
Needs a bunch of fine tuning and a cover.

The solo was originally a plain black mustang tripper.

The pillion I made from scratch using some foam. Oh and then I made the backrest pad.

That's some nice leatherwork and the hand stitching looks great. What did you seal the leather with to give it that look?

I shaved down my stock seat about 3/4", rounded off the sharp edges around the foam, and added a small gel section I cut out of a bicycle seat pad. Also cut down the pillion pad so it follow the new seat lines.

Thanks. I airbrushed the leather using 'fiebing' leather dyes and just polish up with Fiebings 'Aussie Leather care' which is a beeswax. The colour will fade over the riding season but thats ok it should all look good as it ages.

Check out diymotorcycleseat.com. I've been modding mine a bit here and there until I get it just how I want it. Then I'll probably get it custom covered.

Great replies. I'm inspired. Maybe my search for the perfect seat is over. I'll just have to make it.

Anyone know if pre 2006 pans will fit post 2006 frames?
