Need Help! on idle cable!
I bought 14" apes, +8 cables (might go to 2" riser later)and cant get the idle cable to work! I used the new throttle and idle and the idle is not bringing the butterfly back and has alot of slack, but when I use new throttle and old idle it works fine? The cables have the same length at end.(old and new) pulling my hair out!!
Just hoping someone had same issue, I'm using magnum cables if this has anything to do with it?

the idol cable really does not pull back man the carb does that check to make sure nothign is in the way of the return spring, i have urn alot of bikes wihtout the idol cable at all
Tank is off, so nothing is in the way, followed service manual, Tried just having the throttle cable but that doesnt work well.(plus I bought the cable so I would like to use it) Maybe its the throttle? maybe its the butterfly? maybe the cables are too long, maybe its the hand throttle thats sticking inside the housing(cable doesnt tighten?),maybe I need to spend more than 30 minutes,(but the garage is so cold) Just driving me crazy!
Measure the housing length of both throttle and idle cables (old and new). Then, measure the amount of travel that the cables have when the adjustors are collapsed entirely (old and new).
If the housing lengths are similar you should be fine, since you said that the OEM work. If the length of travel is the same for the new as it was for the OEM, you should be fine. The last thing you will need to check is where the cables fit into on your carburator. If the new ones are not fully seated, you can loose 1/2" and that can make all of the difference.

They are the same length at the ends(old and new), That is what is driving me crazy. You brought up about not being fully seated? I'll look into that. That might be it but how can that be fixed? These are magnum cables which I heard are good?
Once installed properly, it shouldn't make any difference if there is 'slack' in the cables ... or even if the throttle and idle cables are exactly the same length ....
Sounds like maybe (i) the spring is not reinstalled correctly to 'spring-load' the throttle butterfly valve (goes up behind "8" in the TB diagram) ... (ii) one of the keepers is not installed correctly to secure the ends of either the throttle or idle cable ends (the little ferrule that the ball seats into item "14" in the grip diagram) ... (iii) the cable expander nuts are not set ... although this would pretty much have to assume either (i) or (ii) were also true ....

The service manual describes the steps, but I find these illustrations can be pretty useful as an aid in helping describe something like this ... hope it helps ....
One other thing is that sometimes the cable sheath gets hung up on the guide sleeves on the IAC bracket that the spring hooks on ... make sure that the cable sheats are seating properly ....

Sorry for beating a dead horse.
I do have a service manual but its at other house and I need a piece of mind right now, on page 1-26 or 2-95 it tells you how to adjust throttle cables, When it tells you to turn the throttle grip counter clockwise all the way, does it tell you to turn adjustment screw on idle or throttle cable till it hits the cam stop?
I was turning throttle adjustment and it wasnt working properly and on a you-tube search shows one guy turning the idle adjustment?

page 1-29:
"Point the wheel straight ahead. Gently turn the throttle grip so that the throttle is wide open (fully counterclockwise) and then hold in position. Now turn the throttle cable adjuster counterclockwise until the throttle cam just touches the cam stop on the induction module."

So you do not need that switch installed on the cable? Can it be eliminated and be able to use a standard idle cable? I have a 2007 ultra classic and trying to install 15" prime apes
