Do something about the anemic 80" engine and you won't need open pipes to satisfy your need for noise. My 95" FXSTD with a Python 3 2:1, baffled, is louder than your shark tail thing. More displacement will fix the noise problem for you.
Noise is pretty subjective, what's loud to you may not be so loud to the next guy. But one thing is for sure, both yours and mine are loud to the non riding public and the non riding public is the population segment that will have us all running stock systems some day. I don't mind loud and the crap about "loud pipes saves lives" is just that; crap that the abusers hide behind to justify their loud pipes. Riding with head out of ***, geared up and following basic defensive driving practices is what saves lives. Loud pipes don't do much for our brothers and sisters that get mowed down while sitting at a traffic light or by some soccer mom turning into our lane never having seen the biker.
Anyway, loud is fine, just wait until out of the neighborhood, town, city, whatever before sounding off; ride safe. JMHO
You are right, I am not sure how I can live with myself....I thought about ending it all and then I realized that I love the sound of my Big Shots on my 96" motor!!!!!
Do some of you guys seriously think that motorcycles are too loud for our society??? A diesel pickup truck is louder then stock Harleys and stereo's? Ever been to Virginia Beach and listened to the sound of jets! Or the constant sound of air conditioners for the entire summer? Doesn't matter if every Harley rider put quiet exhaust on their bikes the government would step in. Jeez, we must pollute half the world when removing emissions ready government approved pipes. I'd hate to see them go after the real problems! If I don't hear you coming a block away you ain't my kinda Harley rider! JMO
Dang, didn't mean to start a fight. No matter what, my bike isn't all that loud now. Its louder than sissy stock, but not as loud as race ready. Its a full system with a long fishtail. It sounds good to me. I like to think I DON'T ride like the asses who **** people off, but I'm not gonna loose sleep over the people that have an issue over everything under the sun. I really hoped that the people in this forum could actually get the tongue in cheek feeling I was trying to express in the beginning of this post. I thought is was fairly obvious. Apologies to those that missed my dry sense of humor.
U234, I couldn't agree more. I toiled about which pipe to buy and went with the full muffler first. I think it DOES look better. I was just having issues with the serious wheezing tone that muffler made. It was sharp looking, but just sounded weak. And believe me, this sound clip was taken after the hour I spent gutting the crazy thing.
Some people do have bikes that **** certain people off. From the sound that is. Some other people have bikes that **** certain people off for other reasons. As you might see from my sig pic, at the moment my bike shouldn't **** anybody off by the sound. But maybe it could for some other reason, not to mention the tattooed dirt bag riding it. Point is, ya can't go through your day worrying about what you may be doing to **** somebody off - or make somebody happy for that matter...unless that person is you.
