Default Yet Another "Is This a Good Deal" question

is 50,341 miles reasonable for a 99 Dyna SuperGlide? It should have the twin cams, right? And if the cam tensioner hasn't failed by now should it be replaced as a preventative measure?

Thanks for all your patience...

PJ

edit: Carfax shows one owner, who apparently moved every two years. Dealer says cam tensioner recall and 10,000 mile maintenance were done there. Some other maintenance, too, but we didn't get into details over the phone.

Mileage is reasonable, tensioners should always be checked, you did not mention the price. And yes it should be the Twin Cam engine.

How much money do you now have to spend on this "long awaited" bike?

Lol... it just SEEMS like forever.

99 SuperGlide for $3995, but it's three hours from my house. Got a dent in the gas tank, local indy shop "guesses" $1200 to fix and repaint. The dent is on the right side, right at the front of the decal. It doesn't look to me like the metal is creased, and the paint looks intact in the photos.

Driver and passenger backrests (that come off), luggage rack, bags, windshield (that comes off), in Diamond Ice. Looks like mini-apes with HD grips, and what the salesdude called "Harley Davidson Performance Pipes" - look like stock or near-stock slip-ons to me.

I'm going down Friday to check it out. a fellow HDFer is going to look at it tomorrow.

Look out! My hunt MAY be over!

BTW, the local indy shop has rates of $60/hour, and they don't care if I watch them work - they even have chairs set up for spectators.

I'm going to get the 10Kservice the day I bring it home to have a solid baseline. $180 for a solid once-over, all fluids, lube all cables, plugs, and about 25 other things. They looked at the photos and said "Jump on it."

I hope it's got a windshield to keep all the bugs out of your teeth. Oh it does have a windshield. Good.

The hardest part of this ordeal will be not giggling when I start the bike for the test ride. Hard to stay "cool" when it's something I've wanted for so long.

1200 to fix and paint the tank seems retarded to me. For that price you should be able to get a brand new OEM tank. I laid my bike down and put about a baseball size dent in the tank above the emblems and it only cost 400 to fix and paint. It would have cost 50 more to take off the tank if I didn't do it myself. Painter said it would have only been 325 if I din't have the denim paint finish. I'd shop around more to get that tank fixed

Were not supposed to giggle everytime we fire up? (mental note to self, no future giggling........guess that dampens the bad biker image ehhh)

No, I think giggling is ok ... once the price/buying negotiations are done. From what I've seen, it's generally a bad idea to let the salesguy see me drool, giggle, or pant during negotiations.

It's going to be difficult enough to walk away if the bike disappoints, after 3 hours on the road for a test drive. I take comfort in knowing that there will ALWAYS be another deal out there waiting.
