I think you should go for a ride on a big with forwards. I find it a little strange to not have my feed under me. Stirrups helped, and in that regard, a 3 inch extension could make this much worse. In other words, it isn't a no brainer.

I'm 6'3" as well and I'm debating the same thing. I'm a new rider, this upcoming season will be my first. I have an FXDX and i'm afraid i will compromise the handling the bike is known for if I put forwards on it, but I need to ride for awhile first to see if I am even going to be comfortable with the mids being as big as I am.

HD fowards before it left the dealer.
Of course the dealer did the work
I had them on my sportster.
Got on the Bob and said I want fowards, they had them in stock and 2 days later drove it home.
I got the black ones.
I'm 5'9" and they are just right.

You can handle your bike with forward controls as well as with mid controls. Don't let anyone tell you different. I am 5'11" and was way too cramped with mid controls. I put my forwards on in 2007 and love them.

I don't have forwards, but I ride with my feet on the highway pegs a lot, shifting and braking with my heels. I can't stay in that position for a long time though, my back starts screaming and I have to pull my feet back to the mids.

I'm more comfortable now with forwards and I got short legs. Now when I sit on a bike with mids I feel cramped. With as tall as you are I can't imagine any other way.

I had forwards fitted before the bike left the shop. if you have only ever ridden with mids they will take a bit to get used to but I dont think you will ever go back to mids once you do get used to them.

I'm 6'2" but my legs are short, about a 31" inseam. Seems like most guys like forwards better, but I'll always be a mid-guy. I do like my highway pegs and I love being able to move my feet back and forth between them just to change things up. I'm probably 50/50 whether my feet or on the controls or the highway pegs. I've spent most of my time on dirt and sport bikes, so having my feet under me, or even behind me, feels normal. Like most things, its a personal preference thing.

It's a matter of what you are most comfortable with. Only way to really know is ride a bike with forwards.

I have forwards on my Sporty and Dyna. Also used the highway pegs on the touring bikes.

If you decide to get forwards, they're pretty ez to install, and should come with instructions.
