Default fuel mileage

I just bought a new fxdc. I always judged when to fill up my old bike by the odometer. What sort of mileage are you with similar bikes getting for mileage per tankful? It's stock except for v+h slip ons.

Over more than 3,000 miles, my stock '09 California FXDC has averaged 45 mpg. As the fuel gauge is completely useless, I depend totally on my odometer/trip-meter and vehicle log, and can see at a glance how soon I'll need to stop, based on miles run since last fillup (always fill to same level & reset trip odometer). Knowing your average fuel consumption, the mental division is virtually automatic. The FXDC's button-operated display selection is all I need.

I think it depends on how hard you ride. My 08 is mostly stock as far as the motor goes, I just have slip ons. I usually get around 45 mpg, a little more if I am on a trip and just cruising at highway speed, and a little less if I am riding with friends on short hops where we tend to get on it a little. I start looking for fuel at around 175 because fuel stops are not too spread out in this part of the country.

40-45 if I'm running back and forth to work. 53-54 if I'm on 2 lane roads in the middle of nowhere.

Its going to vary depending on where/how you ride and the conditions you are riding in. On a 4,260 mile trip last fall, I got 50mpg heading east on the interstate, 57mpg cruising the back roads of Ohio and 38mpg fighting a 40mph headwind heading west across North Dakota. Ya just have to learn what your bike is going to do under different conditions.
