Question Question on clutch ramp coupling....

Changed the clutch cable this weekend and found out that the cable fitting had loosened from the cover. This caused oil sweating out and collecting at the lowest point of the clutch cable.....

When I opened the clutch cover, the ramp coupling was mounted like this:

According to the book it should be like this:

Any one out there who can tell me if it makes any difference how the ramp coupling is seated?

Your help is much appreciated!

I think mine is connected like your second picture. I would connect it so the cable doesn't rub the threaded cable housing. I don't think this had anything to do with the fitting coming loose.

Question

Doing some research I found out the previous owner of my Dyna probably has installed the Easy Pull Clutch Kit, right guys?

Could this be the reason why the ramp coupling was mounted like this?

Edit:

Found some more info on the Easy Pull Clutch Kit over here:

Make sure the cable is free to turn when you're tightening the fitting to the cover. IOW, so that the outer cable housing isn't acting like a torque spring when you're tightening it. Maybe this is what caused it to come loose?

You do indeed have an easy-pull clutch kit installed and I would venture a guess that the coupling was reversed to prevent catching or binding. Should make no difference which way the head is facing so long as it does not cause the cable to bind or the latch head to catch on the internals. As to the cable loosening, the rubber O-ring needs to be tightened quite a bit in order to seal properly. They tend to leak if not thoroughly tightened.
