Default Paint the frame

I tried posting this in the Paint/Powdercoat Forum with no success

Okay so I am somewhat capable when using a wrench but I have almost 0 skills with a brush or spray can or whatever

I have been considering a rear fender mod where I might need to chop the struts a bit and I was curious about painting the frame and struts after the chop. What kind of paint do you use here or what would the process be - how difficult are we talking?

I'm not an expert either, but I think your standard automotive grade paint would suffice, unless you go with powdercoat which would probably be a better idea.

Wouldn't I need to completely disassemble the bike to powdercoat? I don't want to take short cuts but I really don't want to take the whole bike apart to powder the frame.

From the few times I've tried painting things on my bike, the only true way to get it "done right" is to not take short cuts. Of course, if you can live with "done good" or "done ok"....go for it yourself.

I saw a bike a few weeks back with a white frame and it really popped! White frame, black tins, and chrome everywhere else. I liked it. It was an older Kawasaki Vulcan I think.

I remember someone on here a few months back wanting to paint his frame blue or red. Don't really remember if they followed through with it though.

Yes you would need to strip the bike down to the bare frame to have it pc. Depending on what and where you modify on the frame you might be able to just mask it off and spray it with some good automotive paint like SC_Longhair had suggested.
