I've shopped, and shopped, but couldn't find a big bar that wasn't "show use only" or didn't cost an obscene amount of $$. I want rigid mount just as stock so that complicated my search as well. I have given up that search. I've removed my stock bar, chopped it off the side plates and cleaned them up, bought a 20' stick of 1/2" bar stock for $20 and now just mocking ideas. I'm hoping to settle on something and get to cutting and tacking this week.
Help me out. I'd like to see some pics of your custom bars and or racks simply for ideas. I've settled on length, gonna stand 48" off the fender with a padded back roughly 2/3 the length. I'm just looking for structural and visually appealing ideas to incorporate into it. I'm trying for an old school look.
I aint got no pictures but a friend did a 24" and it looks awesome, 48 might be way to tall in my opinion ... he kept the same angle as the fork .
I asked him to do the same with my stock one the same as you and we'll do the same as you said, cut the original one to the bracket so i'll be able to quick attatch-disconect,
I'm sticking with the original angle/channels as well. I want the bar the same height as my handlebars, 48" is a rough measurement at this point. I'll try to take pics as it comes along.
Thanks reaper, I've googled sissy bars so many times, and seen so many images, when I clicked the link it just asked "seriously? Again? Why not set as homepage?" Jk. I'm looking to see what some of our forum members have done. I'd like to hear what issues, if any that have been encountered. Again, thank you guys.
You might already done this but I've found a few on youtube as well.
I like the ones that finish pointy with a different angle about 5 inches of the point of it
Hadn't thought of YouTube for sissy bars, but now days, I guess I could see it. People video everything whether it moves or not. Lol. I'll have to check it out. I've been leaning towards a basic A-frame, but the pitchfork look is starting to grab my attention. I love the wild looking bars but those are too extreme for the look I'm shooting for.
