So why is everyone so afraid to pull the primary cover? You have to change the fluids, but the HD kit comes with a new gasket... is there some voodoo in there waiting to come out and getcha?
I have been contemplating this as well and as mentioned, there are some major pieces that have to come out to get the inner primary off. A shop manual is highly recommended.
The shifter piece mentioned in a few posts resides between the inner half of the primary and the engine. There is a special drive locking tool recommended for getting the clutch hub off,. Not sure if a homemade piece is easily constructed?
I'm currently looking at a FXDC and putting FWD controls on it. How adjustable are these kits? I love the FXDC but I think FWD's would look better on it. My current bike has forwards but they're not as far forwards as say, the WG.

The peg location is fixed, the foot controls have plenty of adjustability. On the other hand you can buy kits for some of the forwards to move them back an inch or two. Check into their availability before deciding on a particular brand.
