Default new rear tire

Right now my bike has the dunlop d401 up front and the k591 160/70-17 in the rear. It's time to replace the rear tire. Ofcourse I want good handling and traction but I also ride A LOT so I want something that will compromise in between. I've noticed alot of people like the ME880 high mileage touring tires. Does this sound like the best for my situation? Also something I've noticed is a lot of people get 180 tires which is the width of course but the second number is the percentage of the width and that is the sidewall height correct? So if the width is made wider the second number should be lower to get the same sidewall height to keep from throwing off speedometer? Or is this such a small difference it does not matter?

I'm not concerned about the width so would it be more beneficial to just get the me880 160/70-17 high mileage touring tire and will they offer decent traction? thanks

Anything is better than the Dunlops!...even no tyres would be better! I use the Metzeler 880s and I really rate them most highly...excellent in the wet or the dry!

Avon Venoms are good too but they suck in the wet once they get down towards 2mm of tread left.

My advice is to stick with the stock tyre size.....it was chosen for a reason by people who know what they are doing...

would it be ok to use the metzeler rear with the dunlop front? The dunlop looks almost new.

Avon Venoms all the way on my fat bob great tyre in the dry never ridden on them in the wet so cant comment.
They do get sticky and warm quite quick but wear aint great as they are a little soft.

I guess this also depends on your riding style
