i know that almost all twin cam dress up stuff will fit any twin cam, ie 88 and 96 timer cover, aircleaner cover etc will change over. also, pipes will fit, may need to make or modify brakets.
I found out that a 1999 FXD rear fender won't work on a 2001 FXD, unless you want to buy a whole new different rear taillight housing to go with it... and that 1999 taillight housing does not have the same pinouts as the 2001 housing. Also, the hole in the fender for routing the wiring from the main harness is too small for 2001 wiring.
I ended up repairing and repainting my 2001 rear fender. So now I got a 1999 Laser Red rear fender I gotta sell.
1999 triple clamps are exactly the same as 2001, and most likely up to 2005.
The main change is 2005 and earlier vs. 2006 and later, as my attached animated GIF shows. However, FXD speedo mount and tank consoles differed from 2004 to 2005, and speedo mounts were again changed for 2006.
