No way would I ever pay that much! Around here it's usually $300. What do they do for that $1290? I would question that and then question why other dealers charge a quarter of that for the same set-up. And the msrp is $12,999 for the street bob, I would start looking for a different dealer!

Yes, I paid setup fee on my last Harley, but I never understood them, just figured that's profit for the dealer and knowing that, I figure it's part of the price. What do they have to setup? I've taken the factory tour in York twice. The bike comes off the line fully assembled and ready to go. For christs sake they do a 80mph roll test on every bike as it comes off the line. Then it's crated, strapped down and ready for shipping. When the dealer gets it all he needs to do is take the card board over box off, unstrap it and roll it out of the metal frame. It's ready to go. Take 30 minutes to wipe any dust off verify the oil level and gas it up. Everything else is ready to go. Also why is freight the same charge anywhere in the country. My bike was assembled less than an hour from the dealer. What did they do ship it to california and back to justify the freight charge. I just wish they would inlcude it as part of the list price and that way we all start with a known asking price, not this crap "plus freight&prep". Just add it in and now we can dicker honestly, rather than agree on a price and then have to fight over the prep/freight they want to add at the end of the deal. I know they have to make a profit, it is a business after all but let's be honest about the whole process.

the email thing works pretty good go on the HD locator site and send out emails and faxs on the bike you want and the OTD price you wanna pa, also even if you can pay for it cash take the harley finance because the dealer get money on the back end of the loan so they will deal with you more thinking ythey will make money off you on the loan. HD finance has a no pre-payment penalty. so it wa win win.

I've purchased four new HD's in the past 15 years or so and I've never paid more than a couple of hundred for setup fee's and that usually included a few pieces of chrome to be added before taking the bike. Best to find a new dealer. If you get to see your bike in the crate, all they do is adjust the handlebars, check fluids, tire presure and complete a safety check. I'd say if they are tryig to rob you now, just wait until after the sale. Just saying. . .

I paid 14,700 out the door for my 2011 SB just a few months ago. They threw in 2 years free maintenance, $300 gift card, free riders course, days rental for a buddy, a really nice HD cooler, and a bag of misc goodies..... other local dealer wanted $500 more and nothing to sweeten the deal. Oh and they delivered it for free and will pick it up and drop it off for all my maintenance for the 2 years if I want them too....

When working for a Harley dealer last year I got to see a lot of the actual costs
on freight & set-up. We didn't mark up the freight and actual cost on the set-up
was always under $200- no matter what bike- and marked up from to over $400
but no more than $580.

Yeah sounds like they forgot to deduct for the $1290 "kiss-my-***" discount. Good luck
