Default Chock/lift

Just really looking for something to be able to hold the bike up straight while doing maintenance. I figure a chock would be sufficient, but don't really know where to start looking for one, or if I should just invest in a lift and get it over with. Don't really plan on doing much, just basics...

Thanks!

The lift is nice,I have one from Complete Hydraulics,it sure saves the back ,with 33" of lift makes working on the bikes easy.About $700. Harbor Freight has chocks.

My Craftsman MC lift was bought used from a C/L ad ($60). Search for the modification thread; I have made a special upgrade to mine. A lift is most helpful for cleaning your wheels, and is essential for removing them.

Actually I am looking for a chock, too, to facilitate storage in the tight available space. The better ones cost upwards of $200. Really don't care for the HF design, but it's cheap. Or I may fab my own.

How is the Harbor Freight motorcycle lift compared to say the craftsman one? I know it probably won't compare to a J&S, but is it decent?

Look for Harbor Freight ads in motorcycle magazines, plus they always have a 20% off coupon. I bought their yellow lift for $60, they have a high lift platform type for $280, a roll around dolly for $60, and wheel chocks for $45. The prices seem to vary a lot between magazines and months, so just go to a newstand and get the mag with best deal.

I can't find my plans for the steel rod and 2x8 block. Who has it?

I got a J&S chock and Jack. On the chock you don't have to buy those tie down bars you see, I bought them for trailering when I moved. It's rock solid. No straps need on the chock or the jack when in the garage. Made in the USA and by great guys.

Here's with my oil pan adapter. Open all three plugs and into the catch pan.

I made some stands similar to car axle stands. These ones I made fit under the forward control peg mounts. Holds the bike perfectly square and extremely sturdy. Leaves everything easy to get at, can adjust them(screw) so the front wheel is off the ground and then put my small floor jack under the back if the rear wheel needs to be lifted clear of the ground
