Default Wiring Question

I'm new to HD Forum...first thread.

I am upgrading my the springer on my dyna from a DNA to a Paughco. Now I will have the shock as well. The issue I am dealing with is that I need to extend the wire for the headlight (need some more slack). I believe this is simple, but I have very little electrical experience and want it to look clean (I've seen some hack wiring jobs and want to avoid). Any guidance or suggestions (completely new wires, extend what I have...etc.)?

If you have the manual, by far the best way to go would be to completely replace the existing wires with new ones of the right length. You can get the necessary pins from the dealership and even auto parts stores, but the dealer will avoid mistakes.

If you've done some business there in the past and you've got a good relationship with them, head into the service area and ask the guys about removing and replacing pins in the connector for the headlight and in the harness. It's not that hard, you just need the right crimpers and some practice. I'd recommend buying at least 2-3 more pins than you need so you can make mistakes or test once or twice.

Oh yeah, the manual should have a section which tells you how to remove pins from the various connector types if memory serves me correctly.

It's only 3 wires, find the connector in the neck, cut the 3 wires and solder in extensions. The stock setup is heat shrink wrapped, just get new shrink tube and do the whole length. Make it as close to the connector as possible so most of it fits back into the neck.
Harbor freight carries 1/4" shrink tube in longer lengths so you can make it 1 piece.

Yea Solder in extentsions and reshrink. If it's done right you will have no problems and it will look clean. Most hack jobs come from people using stupid crimps.
