Question Brake Line Issue?

Just out of curiosity. Is it possible for a crimped front brake cable to cause the caliper to stay closed(pads touching rotor) and make the lever only pull back about a half inch? This happened to me two nights ago when riding home. I pulled over and started squeezing the lever and it broke free and was back to normal. But about 10 minutes later as I pulled up to my place it did it again. I just noticed today that the cable(steel braided) had a crimp in it. I also put a screw driver in between the pad and the caliper and It pushed back into place without a problem but after I squeezed the lever again it would go back to being stuck until I pushed the pad back by hand. I am assuming the cable is the problem here, I just wanted to get some input from you guys in case someone else had this same issue. Thanks in advance for any help.

Clean your caliper pistons and see if that was the problem.

Most likely the pistons are sticking. I had this problem on a road trip last year and ended up losing my rear brake because the pistons finally froze solid. I would do like pig said and pull the caliper apart and clean it right away before you cause further damage that in my case required replacing the caliper.

Solid advice above... caliper needs some attention.

I had my front caliper pistons get stuck out and wore one side of the brake pads clear down to almost metal before I realized it. I cleaned them up with brake cleaner and a rag then I replaced the pads with Lyndall Z. No problems since.

Eric, the "retarded rider" comment in my sig is because I'm a retard.
