Default Sprocket bolts backing out - AGAIN

My sprocket/pulley bolts backed out on me last season... I replaced the bolts since it says not to reuse and I used the bike a few more times without issue.

Over the winter I chromed my wheels and bought chrome pulley bolts. I installed via the star pattern on instructions and used blue loctite... They've held up for about 500 miles so far but yesterday they started backing out again.

Today I'm going to take them all out, red loctite them and re-torque to spec. I know it says to replace the bolts but I just bought these and if the pulley is shot that's another set of bolts I'll be throwing away.

Any thoughts? Is my pulley shot?

Sounds like it could be a vibration problem. Is your wheel true. Sure the bolts are not to long?

Wheel should be fine... what exactly do you mean by true? These bolts are 1/8" longer than stock BUT the stock ones ended up backing out as well so I can't blame the length of the bolt.

@Drew Yeah going to try red loctite tonight

I have never had this issue and always use red loctite.

But understand, Red locktite, means you will have to heat them to 300F to break them loose someday...

Better than losing the pulley bolts on the road.

@traveler - this is the exact reason I used blue to begin with... the instructions DID call for red, but I read online and a bunch of other places people using blue because of removal

I wonder if it is the chrome bolts causing the problem. The surface material may be too smooth for the locktite to work?

Possibly but it was happening on my stock bolts as well...
