Default Changing rear tire

07 Dyna Low Rider, any tips or tricks to removing the rear wheel. Hadn't had to change out my own tire since my panhead days.

Thanks

Jack back wheel off the ground, while supporting the weight of the wheel, slide out the axle, roll the wheel forward to get some slack on the belt so you can take it off. Don't stuff around with the adjusters.

The manual was saying something about taking the shocks off and bake pads, etc. Is this not necessary?

Going by the manual you undo the shocks and jack the bike up high enough to role the tire out from under the fender. That's how I did my Super Glide. Make sure you take off the rear passenger foot peg on the exhaust side if you have one. It will hit the exhaust if you don't. You also have to take the belt guard off.

You will probably have to pound the axle out. The factory doesn't put much anti seize on them and they can be tough. Tapping with a big hammer works better than pounding with a small hammer.

Its not necessary to remove the shocks but you will have to jack the bike up pretty high to get the wheel out with the shocks attached.

You will have to remove the caliber on the rear but if you do the front its not required even though the manual says to.

When your ready to put the wheel back cut a wooden dowel to go through the wheel and hold the spacers too. When the wheel is in place you just push the axle in and out comes the wooden dowel E-Z !!

Check your brake pads. I usually change them with my tires, but I get about 9K out of my tires and the brake pads routinely don't last 18K so just easier for me to replace them when the wheel is off. I take the lower bolts off of the shocks, like the manual says; it makes it easier to take the wheel off. You don't need to take off the belt guard and don't need to take off the passenger peg (if you have one). If you have a passenger peg put a towel over your pipes and be careful letting the swing arm down after taking the shocks off. Don't loosen the adjusters like it says in the manual. You will be able to get the wheel/axle in and out without moving them. I usually use a jack stand/scissor jack after taking the shocks off, to make sure the passenger peg doesn't hit my pipes.
Not much too it, just take your time and be careful

Once I took off the bottom shock mounts, I had to take off the muffler support bracket as well in order to get the swing arm down far enough to get the axle out (swing arm would hit the muffler support bracket).
