Thanks for all those replies and they have been helpful. When i am cruising at 2000rpm the motor seems good and only new to harley V-Twin. I only weigh 158 pounds. I will also up my rpm to 2500 when cruising.
Thanks
Interesting information.
After all the motor work I've got done I can pretty safely climb a hill in sixth at anything above 1500 rpm as long as I just use part throttle. And my cams are really high rpm cams.
But only part throttle, open the throttle too far below 2000 rpm and it's like the intake looses velocity and bogs.
Since I got the motor work done over the winter I've been kinda trying to remember how finicky the stock motor is to rpms.
Moral of this story: go get some cams and a tune, and your motor will be much more usable at all RPMs.
I find my SB likes to be in the 3000-3500 range, that is where it is the smoothest and I get the most roll-on power. I don't usually run it that high around town though, I stay around 2500 or so.

I am 215lbs and live in flat Florida and 2K rpm seems good most of the time.
