Little over 1000 miles up and down Skyline Drive and the VA section of the Blue Ridge Parkway with the OL. Good weather except for about an hour of rain on Friday.

I spent my Memorial Day weekend in Iraq, earning the money to pay for all my bike mods. A few pics of my fun time:

At a checkpoint near Az Zubayr:

A "pickup bike" (yes, they attach pickup beds to motorcycles in third-world countries:

A tank, near the checkpoint:

And the hadji-girls occasionally uncover and give me a smile, from a distance (this one's from last year):

Thanks, but I'm not military. I was in the Marine Corps back in the eighties, and Ronald Reagan was my Commander-in-Chief.

You could say I'm working for the government, but it's the Iraqi government. I'm here to get the Iraqi Ministry of Oil back to drilling for themselves. My company provides power and control systems for modern drilling rigs. Generator controls, VFD's, and PLC's. I see to it that the systems are connected properly and make the rigs work like they're supposed to.

Unlike other Americans over here, I'm the sole ex-pat on this job, and I've yet to be targeted by rockets and mortars. Yet...

W G Junkie and I took an overnight trip to central Arkansas, about 850 miles between Saturday and Sunday, the weather was a little crappy to start, but by the time we hit the border you couldn't ask for any better weather.
