Default Shock preload

I have an 01 Dyna and I'm not sure if my rear shocks can be adjusted for preload. All I see is a chrome sleeve on the bottom of shock with a row of holes around the bottom. How do I adjust and how will I know if they are the same? Thanks for any comments.
Jim
P.S. the owners manual talks like they are adjustable, but not how.

You turn them all the way to the bottom they have 5 adjustments (I think) move both up the same amount

You could also use your hands

I wish mine were this way, but mine are hand adjustible.

By that they mean strain your arm twisting them for 15 minutes just to have no idea where the shocks are at unless they are all the way in or out.

A stong gloved hand is all you need. Find out where they are set at then go from there.

That's been my problem. I can't tell where they are at when I start, and can't see any indicators of difference between all the way down or up.

Am I missing something?

Doubt this will help but... you cant go from 1 directly to 5 but you can go from 5 directly to 1, and it is very noticeable when that happens(loud clunk)
