Only used Knurled apehangers, and if they still slip many guys will use a center punch and "peen" the inside of their risers for additional gripping power. I dont believe in using damper bushings on anything taller than 12 inch bars either. Solid mounts or damping slugs I prefer over bushings when the bars are this tall. You cannot push your bike around with tall bars when you are in hilly areas, because once your bars slip even with knurlings they will never grip as good again. I am sure many guys will post feedback on this topic for you.
On my old bike with 16" I had taken an old intertube and cut out a piece and layed it between the bars and the clamp. Never had an issue with movement again.
Current bars are stock mini's, but I am planning on installing this when I get the $$$ for them and cables.
i have been running Apes for over 20 yrs on my softail 16" on 4" risers and have small ones on my dyna 12" on 3" risers. didnt want both bikes to start to look the same .....it might happen anyway by the time i am done with the dyna
Also you can get a small ball bearing and drill a small indent in the middle of the triple tree then place ball bearing in that and bolt up as normal, this should hold them tight
I was thinking of a hardened pin, but never thought of that...Did you indent the handlebar as well, or just sink the bearing in the riser?
Here are some stock-type Street Bob/old Wide Glide 'mini apes' that I powdercoated gloss black ... they were the older ones that did not have holes for wiring them internally so I had to drill my own holes ....
I am using 'dog-bone offset' risers that are about 3" I think ....
@GoldCoast--those Burleigh bars look SICK!!!!!! I'm checkin out their website right now. Wondering what the shipping cost would be and if they're even available for over here in the states.
Maybe email them mate. Email address should be available on their website. If no luck email Rollies Speed Shop, they should be able to do you a price with shipping. Fair warning though, they aren't cheap bars.
