what you're asking makes no sense at alll.
Thank you, I didnt actually know that it wasn't possible with the current frame. To everyone else, I was just asking if it was possible. Why do you all hate softails so much? How can Harley lovers hate Harleys? I can understand if i was talking about Yamahas or BMWs, but forgive me for talking about Harley Davidsons on a Harley Davidson forum. I saw a guy with a Street Bob with a springer seat on another thread, lets all go pick on him because "why would you want to do that?". Maybe its his bike and thats what he likes. Whats wrong with modifying your bike to make it look however you like? Anyway, in closing, I was just asking a simple question because I didnt know if it was possible

I think most dyna owners think your hypothetical is just silly. its like asking if I put wheels on my grandmother if she would be a bicycle...

In these tough, sports bike times, shouldn't Harley riders stick together? Lol

Yeah, I'd have to agree a little with Forbes, he was just asking.

And it would appear he's a new member (and if all the "love" continues, probably not a long term member) he may not be familiar with some of the nuances between the two models.

No, the softail is a pretty bad idea, can be done, but the cost VS benefit of it wouldn't be worth it.

If you do want to make a big change on your Dyna, have a similar visual effect, but with even added cool, check out Heartland or www.heartlandbiker.com Their new Dyna fat tire kit will definitely give you a bigger cool factor, less headache and a smaller cash outlay.

Before you are done, expect to pay $5k or so, but you will be $$ and sense ahead of having a customized and bastardized, untested prototype of an inferior design.

Another, even cheaper way to get a softail, is to shop around and buy one. You might pick one up for the same price that you can sell yours for. This would cost you nothing, the savings would be over $5k.

Wouldn't changing it to a softail be somewhat like putting a really really really really expensive version of Harley's air suspension on the Dyna or Sporty? That's done all the time.

The benefit won't weigh well against the cost though. You'd be better off getting a softail std...same look.

If you want a softail, why don't you just buy one?

Because I love my fat bob. Love the fat wheels, fenders, handlebars, black powder coat, dual headlight etc

It'd cost big $$$ to make a softail look like a fat bob

You could do away with the shocks and use solid struts, would give a similar look but would prob stuff handling. The swing arm on the dyna is mounted through the gearbox so It would be nearly impossible to set up shocks like softtail. Nothing wrong with thinking outside the box
