The best handling Harley I ever owned was a '74 Sportster (yes, shifter on the right, brake on the left). I could toss that thing around like a BMX bicycle.
The FXDWG handles nothing like that, but it handles well for its intended purposes. As mentioned above, it handles great at low speeds, and it handles just fine at normal speeds on the twisty-turnies ("normal" meaning "a bit above the legal limit").
I'm sure there are other Dynas that probably handle a bit better, but I bought the WG because I fell in love with the look. It stood out in the crowd of Dynas at the dealership, and everyone who walked onto the showroom floor was instantly drawn to it. I didn't think I was gonna be able to get it, because someone else was working on the deal. Theirs fell through. Mine went through. Now it's costing me a small fortune in personalization and more powerful internal engine parts.
I own a 07 WG, I'm 62 years old and still ride hard and love the twistys, ride 2 up with the
wife and you can't beat a wide glide, put on rush 2 1/4 mufflers, changed out the intake
and added a pc III from Fuel Moto, plus a lot more, I grew up in the 60's in the chopper
era, and love my wide glide, handles excellant, and runs better, you won't be sorry, great
bike
Before I bought mine I asked a couple HD buddies what they thought and they were concerned about the handling but 800+ miles later I think it handles just fine.
plus one on the flames they are getting old quick eveyone has them get the basic and make it your own
personally i wanted black but ended up with the black/orange flamed.
dealer had 3 in stock and said i will make you a great deal
on one of them...... needless to say i now have flames
not sure if they will grow on me (only been 4 days since purchase) but
with the deal they gave me i can afford to have it painted or find someone
that has black and wanted flames and do a tank swap if i still
cant stand them in six months
Bought mine Feb of 2010. 15k miles later and many trips thru some twists and longnhauls and it handles great for anything I have thrown at it. Get rid of the stock tires and it will handle better. Just my 2cents for what it's worth.
Bought my 11' Wide Glide a few weeks ago now. I commute to work on it and spend my weekends on it. I LOVE this bike. I've had a Road King and a Street Glide and my wife has a an 06' Street Bob. This bike is by far my favorite bike that I have ever owned. It handles great. It's quick and nimble. Some folks say that the pipes drag in the twisties...get new pipes..like we all do anyway.
I was surprised how much better my 10 Wide Glide handles than my 06 Street Bob did. I'm not saying it's night-and-day, but the WG suspension feels more refined or something (still leaves a lot to be desired, but stock-vs-stock it's better). I was skeptical of the skinny front tire at first, but I've had no issues with it at all.
