Default +6" swingarm!!!!

fresh from the machine shop is a swing arm that I had lengthened. I used a donor and cut six inches off each leg and then had them welded to the ends of my original swingarm. The brake tabs have been grinded down to make room for my Vrod 18x5.5 wheel. I had origanlly wanted to leave the shock mounts in place, but somehow the machinist got it confused and left the donor leg shock mounts in place and ground of the mounts I wanted.

As I see it, oh well, instead of using my short 12" shocks, I will find something longer. 16" is the measurement that I have come up with. I am going to make some hard mount struts for now.

Does anyone have suggestions for a 16" shock ?
I have been running a Works 12" but, was not very happy with it.

need to do a few more little odds and ends before I can fit it back together ,but had to find out how it looked.
here are a few pics:

I'm a huge advocate for one off truly custom work, but I'm not sure I follow your reasoning here...

That shock thing is gonna be an issue. I really would be thinking about bringing it back and having the mounts put back where they belong. The shock angle would be so dramatic I'm not sure they would even function, providing you could even find 16 inch shocks.

Cool, did you use anything inside the struts at the join? Where did you find a belt to fit? Hard to know with the shocks, problem with using the old mounts is that there would be a lot of pressure at the axle end and the join because of the extra leverage. No more wheelies for you

I'm assuming this is going to be a drag bike? If not then what is the point of the extended swingarm?

IMO you're going to have some legit shock mounts welded on, taking into considerstion the added load that will be on your shocks due to the extended swingarm.

I will also chime in and say shock angle will make you run a higher spring rate just to keep it the same. How much? Dunno. Way cheaper to have it redone than guess on spring rate and custom shocks. Bumber.

Guys, the swing arm is a style thing. Lots of street racers run extended swing arms. When you can't run wheelie bars on the street, extended swing arms keep the front wheel down. On Harley's its a form follows function thing. Do V-Rods need a 240 rear tire when Hayabusa's run 9's on a 190? No, but they look cool. Same with extended swing arms on Harley's, its a style choice the OP is after.
