Has anybody had any luck removing a dent from a Fat Bob gas tank? To make matters worse it is black denim which appears to not allow the hot glue to stick. 1000 dollars for a new tank seemed ridiculous until I looked inside and saw all the crap inside the tank.
I got a dent in the left rearmost corner where it meets the seat ... my insurance adjuster said a good body shop could repair the dent and repaint it for around $500 ....
I just found a replacement tank on e-bay (new in box) and had it painted to match my tins ....
Paid $290 shipped for the tank ....
You might be able to find the tank in your black denim color ....
If you buy new, go with an online H-D discounter like Zanotti ....
If the dent isnt too bad, try this. Find somewhere that sells dry ice in your area. Let the bike sit out in the sun for a good will to get the tank good and hot. Maybe even use a hair dryer to heat the area around the dent, then with the dry ice wrapped in a rag rub it on the area with dent. The ice will cause the metal to contract and pop it back into its original shape.
You or your dealer would have to remove the tank and ship it to dentkraft.
It was about a year, maybe two years ago that I looked into it, got a quote of about $200 for a PDR (paintless dent repair). You would have to add to the bill the cost of shipping and tank removal, reinstallation. Call them.
I had an issue with a dent just right of the gas cap on mine - took it to the local dent repair place that my buddy uses (he's the general sales manager at my local chevy dealer) and it cost me $75 - they spent almost 2hrs working on it and got it 95% better and because it was on the corner of the tank it was much harder to get out all the way - it is barely noticeable now and you have to know it's there and look for it to really see anything. It bugs the crap out of me but only because I know it's there. BTW, mine is vivid black.

Yep, $75 is what I was quoted on a small dent in my rig. The guy spent about 45 minutes on it, but didn't get it all out. He said he couldn't charge me for it since it wasn't a total removal. I gave him $50 and we were both happy.
