Default Rear Brake Pad wear limit

It looked like my rear brake pads were getting thin, so I went out and purchased a new set from the dealer. I got home and opened the box and the pads looked thin to start with. I then read the repair manual and it says to change the rear pads when they have 0.04" or less thickness left.
I was looking for something to measure 0.04" and what worked was my spark plug gap gauge!
That seems pretty thin, is this right?

If it's in the manual...

.04 is in the manual. I would invest in a feeler guage or micrometer for measuring anything like pads or rotors

It could go to .01 as long as you're not metal to metal. It's just a buffer zone so you don't scar your rotor. Warning, you may see .o5 on one side but if they're not wearing flat you could be metal to metal on the side you don't see.

I just did the same thing, I ordered pads to replace them when I took the wheel off to have the tire changed.. I just put the new pads on, the old ones look almost new, I'm not a rear brake rider I guess it could have waited. The new pads are Lyndal Z plus, so I'm looking at it as an upgrade..
