Default 11 Super Glide Custom Shock Adjustment

Is there a way to adjust my shocks without that stupid spanner wrench? Went for a decent ride with the wife today and hit a few bumps and it was brutal. I am guessing that they are set pretty low from the factory and need to be adjusted. If anyone is in the Metro Detroit area and wants to help me out that would be fantastic! Thanks!

spanner wrenches are pretty cheap, picked one up for about 6 bucks at a metric dealers, not sure what HD wants for one. You can do it by hand but it's a pita sometimes. Dont know of anything else that would turn them without scratching them up, maby try a large pair of channel lock pliers with a leather belt wrapped around the shock to protect them?

adjusting down can be done by hand if you have a good grip, as for adjusting up you can try a screw driver in one of the holes, while pulling up and turning the shock with your other hand.

j14woods,

There are alternatives, (see below), but...

The spanner wrench I bought was a drag specialties, (was at my HD dealer), only 12 bucks. I recommend this as it is simply too easy to do with it and you can easily do it on the fly, (while on the road), with little effort. If you do get the wrench I would suggest using a micro fibre towel underneath to prevent any possible scratches on your chrome shocks.

Below for some alternatives to spanner wrench. (I have never tried either of them).

1:a rubber lined oil filter wrench

2: using 2 screw drivers, (one placed in either side of the shock), then twist simultaneously. ( I would not do this unless it was an emergency, due to possible scratching of paint etc...) A scratched tin is going to cost you more than 12 bucks

Good luck,

Tom

Agreed - got one for mine after my wife started riding with me and it was quite easy - since the shocks aren't labeled with numbers it was hard to tell what setting it was on so I had to just adjust it, ride it then come back and adjust again if needed. I only had to go one setting up and it rides perfect for us both.
