Thinking about going the 103 upgrade route and trying to workout what my costs would be for the time to do the build.
Local dealer here has told me the job is about 20 hours worth of labor, is this about right for a competent workshop? Seems to be a bit over the top to me, especially at the rates they charge for labor here.
Can anyone give me some insight as to how many hours it should take to do the job? If I have a reasonably accurate idea of hours involved i could probably negotiate a flat rate for the build.
Would do it myself but i dont have a workspace/shop/shed
20 hours!!!! They are pulling your peepee. I have done one of these which meant pulling and replacing the top end (we used SE heads), swapping cams (255's) and fitting an uprated clutch spring.
Took well under 10 hours (more like 8) but add Dyno time to that, we outsourced the Dyno part.
Go elsewhere or buy a manual and do it yourself, it is not at all difficult if you have some mechanical knowledge.
Six months ago the new Harley shop in town had a 103" special going on. $1000 for a 103" upgrade. Supposedly, this was $300 off on labor, so the normal cost was $1300.
I asked the guy that told me about the "deal" and was considering having it done on his bike, what the build consisted of, and he couldn't tell me what it included.
20 hours of shop labor over here would be about $1200 to $1600, so I doubt it is considered more than a 8 to 10 hour job.
I do not know what your current setup is like but have you considered a set of cams for your motor?
For a lot of people that is more than enough, what does the 103 build entail that you are looking at as far as parts go, there are different levels of the 103 build and some of the more watered down ones really ain't worth it.........
Thinking of doing the 95 on my 01 TC88, cams, BB kit, new tensioners, A/C. HD trained mechanic at local Indy quoted 8 hours at $80 per hr. Don't need to istall comp. releases though.
