Default Changing own fluids

So let me start by saying Im a Harley noob and I admit Im not a very good mechanic, but Im wanting to learn and work on my own bike. I have a 2001 Dyna Low Rider.

My question is when you change the oil, I heard its like 3 different fluids or 3 different areas to change like primary engine case blah blah. What all goes into changing it yourself? I Can change car oil so Im not totally dumb. But dont want to screw anything up.

If you can change the car oil, you can do the bike. Get a service manual for your bike year/model and have at it.

I like buying the manual online and downloading it to my laptop, less of a paper mess and a laptop is just as easy to move around with you as a book. But that's just me.

If you do a google search you will find a few places. I don't remember where I bought my last one, they're handy to have, but honestly if all you're gonna do is change fluids you can google yourself to death and find threads, articles, youtube videos on how to do it.

Cool thanks for the heads up.

Now what kind of oil do you recommend?? I like getting first hand experience with this one and not just reading reviews.

Just changed oil on my bike last week for the first time. It was extrememly easy. I used Mobil 1 20W-50 in all 3 holes, used a Harley filter, and took my time (all 45 minutes seein how it was the first time on a Harley. Can do my Goldwing in 20 minutes) Thought my shifting improved, easier to find neutral, and I really believe it sounds quieter. All 3 plugs are in the same general area.

Engine, primary, tranny. Depending on model and year the plug locations will vary. Filling the trans and engine is easy but the primary is a little tricky filling it through the derby cover. Once you get the hang of it it will be a snap. Good luck and have fun

I got my manual on Ebay.

I'm running the screaming eagle 20/50 full synthetic fluids.
